Size does matter. Yeah, that’s right, I said it. Before all you men out there start griping (not gripping) and saying that it’s how you use it that’s important, just relax and listen, cuz I’m not talking about that. Pervs.
He’s big. So what? My friend told me that if I was a guy, she’d think I was compensating for something. He’s intimidating, that’s true. When I first bought him, I’d sit in front of him, hands on his new, large keyboard, poised and ready, mind completely blank. It would take ages for ideas to rise and hours of mind-numbing hard work to produce anything satisfying. But now, oh yeah, I’ve fully adjusted to his sleek, dark keys, fingers often caress quickly and smoothly up and down for hours at a time.
The intimidation factor that my computer imposes is immense indeed. I think that’s why I used to prefer pen and paper, because doing it by hand is fluid and natural. It was a long, hard process to retrain myself to use my fingers instead, but I’m satisfied with the end result. It’s quicker and easier, and that’s how I like it.
My computer and I have been through a lot. Stopping and starting, it’s been the most intense, intimate, and satisfying relationship I’ve had in years. Don’t judge me.
I say size matters because I couldn’t imagine using anything smaller. My roommates’ computer has this tiny barely-fits-my-fingers wimpy ass keyboard that I can’t stand for more than two seconds at a time because my hands are so close together they start to feel claustrophobic. My wrists cramp and stiffen and I grow agitated from being so restrained. Ideas pop into existence and then disappear because I can’t move fast enough on the puny keys. That makes me appreciate what I have all the more. My computer makes it easy for ideas to expand and grow since he can handle so much. His hard drive is impressive indeed, and suits my needs perfectly.
